Hales Engineering specializes in providing traffic engineering and transportation planning services to clients in the public and private sectors. Importance is placed on developing creative, cost-effective, and technically sound solutions to planning and design problems associated with all modes of transportation.
Over the last 20 years the professional staff has developed a considerable reputation in the traffic engineering and transportation planning fields. The many transportation developments planned and evaluated by our company are further testimony to the creative talent, extensive practical experience and consensus-building ability of our staff. Hales Engineering serves as UDOT's review engineer for all traffic signal warrant, left-turn, speed, and pedestrian studies.
Hales Engineering assisted UDOT in the analysis of traffic for the new changes to the 10600 South interchange, including a direct northbound connection to South Towne Mall.
Analyzed traffic operations with and without proposed bike improvements on Cougar Boulevard (formerly Bulldog Boulevard).
Traffic analyses for the Utah Valley Express (UVX) bus rapid transit system.
Hales Engineering developed an easy-to-use tool to prioritize projects in the Region based on various criteria. The tool was automated using macros and VBA coding and was data-driven.
Worked with UDOT Region 4 to identify potential improvements in intersection control, signing, and pedestrian safety in Blanding.
Evaluated transportation demand and needs for the redevelopment of the former state prison site in Draper, Utah. Innovative trip reduction methodologies were used to identify ideal land mixes to minimize trips.
Worked with SITLA group to identify future transportation infrastructure needs for land in Spanish Valley, south of Moab, Utah.
Identified potential improvements to Richfield's Main Street to provide safe travel for pedestrians while maintaining good traffic flow on Main Street.
Municipalities
Worked with Provo City to plan alignment and size of Lakeview Parkway to serve to the growing west side of Provo.
Hales Engineering has provided on-call transportation services to Payson City, primarily with evaluations of intersection controls.
Worked with City and Real Salt Lake to complete a Parking Management Plan for soccer games and other events.
Hales Engineering has served as an on-call consultant as needed for Lehi City for various traffic analyses including future traffic projections and intersection analyses.
Worked with Tooele City on Transportation Master Plan to identify transportation needs of projected full-build of City land uses.
Worked with American Fork City to plan future transportation network around the transit-oriented development area near the FrontRunner commuter rail station.
Worked with Nephi City on two sub-areas of the City to plan for future roadway alignments and intersection control.
Completed Transportation Master Plan and subsequent updates to identify future City roadway needs and improvements.
Completed a Transportation Master Plan and accompanying documents to identify future multi-modal transportation needs of South Jordan City.
Private Developers
Completed transportation planning and traffic engineering evaluations for the planned Jordanelle Ridge area, located near the Jordanelle Reservoir in Wasatch County.
Completed a traffic impact and parking study for the Black Desert Resort in St. George, Utah.
Completed a traffic impact analysis and roadway sizing for the Mayflower Mountain Resort in Wasatch County, Utah.
Completed a detailed traffic analysis and parking evaluation for the proposed development at Park City Mountain Resort.
Completed a traffic and parking analysis for the Hyatt Regency, located adjacent to the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. The analysis considered proximity to transit and shared parking use.
Completed a traffic analysis of a proposed development in the La Caille area in Sandy, Utah. This included an analysis of a gondola base station to serve a system in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and the impacts of vehicles entering and exiting a large parking structure at the station.
Worked with developers and City staff to analyze traffic in the Thanksgiving Point area for the proposed Thanksgiving Station, a mixed-use, transit-oriented development.
Completed a traffic impact study and other evaluations for the proposed transit-oriented Downtown Vineyard, near the Vineyard FrontRunner station.
Completed a comprehensive traffic impact study for the proposed Olympia Hills development in Salt Lake County, with a thorough evaluation of future traffic demand and roadway needs.

Completed a traffic impact study for the Intermountain Hospital in Spanish Fork, Utah.
Completed a traffic impact study for the Primary Children's Hospital located in Lehi, Utah.
Completed a traffic impact study for the Utah Military Academy in Lehi, Utah.
Completed a traffic impact study for the Layton Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Worked with Brigham Young University (BYU) to create a comprehensive transportation demand management (TDM) plan to maximize multi-modal transportation use.
Completed a parking study for the new Music Building at Brigham Young University (BYU), focusing on multi-modal use and the use of existing parking on campus.
Hales Engineering functions as the reviewer of all Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) traffic studies. We review each signal warrant, pedestrian, speed, left-turn signal, and school zone study completed for UDOT roadways.
